Human- and solar-powered: Solair I and II

The Solair I was an electric aircraft that was both powered by human muscles and solar panels. The 2499 solar panels provided the plane with 1.8 kW of power. Development started in 1980 and the first flight took place on 21 August 1983. Later improvement resulted in the Solair II. The project began in 1996, and aimed to develop a higher-powered successor aircraft. The plane was powered by two 4 kW engines and had 1352 Wh battery capacity.
